So we are once again upon another Valentine’s Day holiday and if your kids are like mine, they are already talking about what kind of Valentine’s Cards they want to pass out at school.
Passing out cards and candy works just fine for their classmates, but what if you want to put a little razzle dazzle on this day for your own children? Are you stuck on what to do, where to start. Let me help you make this Valentine’s Day one for the book. Who knows, the ideas below may even encourage a new tradition for your family.
Here are some fun ways to celebrate the day of love with your kids and teens:
Make and decorate sugar cookies together
There is something about kids cutting out their own sugar cookies that they seem to really enjoy. Let them frost them with pink frosting and decorate them with a ridiculous amount of sprinkles. It’s a fun bonding tradition to do together and exciting for them to point out which cookies they created.
Write them a Valentine’s Day Letter
Writing a letter is almost a lost art. You are more likely (your kids as well, depending on how old they are) to draft an email or type up a text message. But seeing how someone feels about you on paper is a permanent memory, as long as you save the letter. Write a letter to you kids about how much they mean to you. If you have more than one child, have them write a letter to each other. One great thing about this idea is that you and your kids can always revisit the letter when needed. This is perfect especially if you or your kids are having a not-so-great day.
Host a Valentine’s Day Brunch for your kids
Since the holiday falls on a Monday, have a brunch for them the day before. Have each child’s favorite breakfast item on the menu and kick it up a notch by making the food items in Valentine’s Day colors: Pink milk, Red Velvet Pancakes or waffles, etc. You can include the kids in this idea by having them create special place settings for each family member. Some construction paper, glitter, scissors and glue sticks go a long way and will add a special touch to the meal.
Your teen son or daughter can always use a little extra $$$. Think about packing a few bills into an empty candy box. Bad news, no chocolates. Good news, $$$. Or you can double up and keep the chocolates.
Gift him some fan gear from his favorite sports team
We just have a few days left but I hope this helps!
