Hey Hey Hey… so if you follow me on Instagram, I talked about past experiences that made me who I am today. I never knew that sharing my life experiences would inspire others until recently. So today I want to share a few more facts about me in hopes to continue with my journey of being authentic as well as continuing to uplift and inspire, so let’s dive in:
- As I stated earlier, my grandmother raised my sisters and I. The reason behind this is because my mother was addicted to drugs. This is always been a topic that I never wanted people to know growing up. I never wanted to be judged, but now I see that my mother’s decision do not determine who I am, but it actually helped me to be the mother that I am!
- I am the first person to graduate from college in my family, as well as obtain a MBA. I literally had to figure it out myself. I filled out the financial aid paperwork, took out loans and grants and the rest was history.
- I worked every single summer so that I could have money throughout the school year as well as supplies to take back to school . I never worked during the school year thanks to my refund checks I had to learn how to budget early.
- When I was 23 I had to raise my sisters, can you imagine raising a 14 and 16 year old when you’re fresh out of college? Eventually it ended up being just myself and my younger sister until she went off to college and eventually moved out of town.
- Before my sister went to college I went through the foster care training so that we could get some type of assistance.
- I worked as a patient transporter until I was able to get a job with BCBSNC, I hate hospitals and that was a job, I hated but was thankful to have money coming in.
- My first car was a mini van HA!!!! The Big Body, it only had 2,000 miles and thanks to my exes dad, I was able to make $50 payments biweekly because I was BROKE but trying to make a way.
- I used to work 60 hours a week! 40 with BCBSNC and 20 with Victoria’s Secret as an assistant manager closing the store each night. That was actually so fun but once I started grad school I had to stop.
- One time I actually called the police to have them change my flat tire on the highway HA!! I still can not believe I did that and I can’t believe they came out, changed the tire and I continued my journey home. Listen, I had no clue what to do and that was the only logical explanation.
Ok guys, I’m gonna end here, I hope you got some laughs with this one and maybe even some inspiration. I have so much more to share at a later time. Until next time…..
XO,
Meka
